Fidesz MEPs to vote against embargo on Russian oil, gas imports
MEPs of Hungary’s ruling Fidesz will vote against a proposal for an embargo on oil, gas and nuclear fuel imports from Russia, Fidesz MEP Kinga Gál said on Thursday.
Such a measure would “kill the Hungarian economy” and would make Hungarian families be the ones to pay the price of war, Gál said on Facebook. “We stand by Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, we condemn Russian aggression, and therefore in the interest of European unity we will support the EP resolution in the final vote,” she said. “We do all this while
rejecting proposals in the European Parliament and all other European institutions to impose an embargo on gas, crude oil and the peaceful use of nuclear energy.”
Fully 5,089 people crossed into Hungary directly from Ukraine on Wednesday, while another 3,605 from Ukraine crossed from Romania, the national police headquarters said.
Police issued temporary residence permits valid for thirty days to 1,181 people,
the police website said on Thursday. Holders of such permits must contact a local immigration office near their place of residence within thirty days to apply for permanent documents, it added.
Budapest police received 570 refugees, 292 children among them, by train, according to the municipal police website. Refugees arriving on special train services at Kőbánya felső railway station, in eastern Budapest, were taken by bus to the BOK sports and events centre serving as a humanitarian transit point.
The authorities transported 34 people, including 23 children, to accommodation in the capital and outlying areas.
