Fidesz: European Commission openly interferes with Hungary’s affairs

Budapest, December 11 (MTI) – The European Commission has openly interfered with Hungary’s internal affairs through contracting a consortium led by Altus, a company belonging to former prime minister and opposition party leader Ferenc Gyurcsany, deputies of ruling Fidesz said in a statement on Friday.
Authors of the document noted that the consortium has just recently won “another shameless contract” from the EC, and called that body’s procedure an “unscrupulous abuse” of its authority.
Walter Deffaa, the EC’s director-general for regional policy, said at a Budapest conference earlier in the day that the Altus-led consortium had tendered the best bids for the two contracts it was awarded. He added that a consortium cannot be turned down because its leader is owned by a politician, and the Commission would have broken the rules had it decided otherwise.
In its statement, Fidesz insisted that “Brussels is openly stuffing the pocket of an active political player and thus his Democratic Coalition”, which, they said, could be viewed as forbidden party financing.
