Fence-building “dead end”, says DK

Budapest, September 20 (MTI) – The opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) said on Sunday that the events of the past few days have shown that the government’s fence-building in a bid the stem the flow of migrants along the southern border has come to a “dead end”.
DK lawmaker Szabolcs Kerek-Barczy said in a statement that the fence was not a solution since migrants would arrive from other countries.
On Saturday more migrants arrived from Croatia than the rate of arrivals before the fence was built on the Serbian border.
“This finally spells the failure of the migration policies of [prime minister] Viktor Orban,” he said, adding that once the fence is built on the Croatian border, migrants would simply arrive from Romania.
The ruling Fidesz party said in a statement in reaction to DK that if it were up to the left wing, anyone would be able to cross the border into the country and into Europe.
The statement called on the left wing and DK’s leader, Ferenc Gyurcsany, in particular to stop making “irresponsible statements riling up the migrants”.
