Extreme weather: hail, rainstorms are expected for today!

The rainstorms and hail on Friday devastated many parts of Hungary. There were districts in Budapest where public transport restrictions had to be implemented, but the storm caused damages nationwide worth millions of HUF. To make matters worse, we have bad news for those who thought sunny days were to come.

According to index.hu, it is quite possible that catastrophes will happen today. The Hungarian Meteorological Service (OMSZ) introduced a second-level (orange) warning meaning “severe weather phenomena, which can, eventually, lead to damage, or even cause personal injury or accidents. In case of a warning, be very careful, take care of your safety and your valuables. Follow the news and details of the weather forecast. Follow the advice of reliable media and the instructions of the authorities.”

According to MTI, one should expect sunshine mixed with clouds, downpours, showers, and possible hail in some places. Northern, north-eastern wind is expected where there is rain. Lows: 12, 21°C. Highs: 26, 32°C.

Professionals said that intense rainstorms during which more than 50 mm water might come down in no time are expected everywhere in the country. Of course, everyone should expect ice as well. Here is a video of how huge hailstones came down on Friday:
