Everybody supports sex reassignment surgeries for minors in this Hungarian village!

If we agree that supporting sex reassignment surgeries for kids is a liberal goal, then a Hungarian village is the most liberal one in probably the whole world. We show you why below. But we can tell this much: the outcome of the so-called child protection referendum in Vassurány was shocking even for the locals.

Controversial referendum

As we reported earlier, the government launched a so-called child protection/LGBTQ in education referendum last year, and the voting took place parallelly with the general elections on the 3rd of April. Hungarian citizens could answer the following questions:

  • Do you support holding educational events on sexual orientation for minors, in public education institutions without parental consent?
  • Do you support the promotion of gender-reassignment treatments for minors?
  • Do you support the unrestricted exposure of minors to sexually explicit media content, that may influence their development?
  • Do you support showing minors media content on gender-changing procedures?

None of the questions reached the required threshold of 50% of registered voters casting a valid “yes” or “no” vote (4,107,652) for the referendum to be declared valid and binding. Around 20 pc of the votes were invalid, mirroring the national list support gained by the joint opposition. 95 pc of people casting a valid ballot chose “No”. Meanwhile, the rate of “Yes” votes remained below five pc. However, that was only the national results. In one particular village, that trend turned upside down.

What could happen in the village?

According to nyugat.hu, 95-96 pc of the residents said “Yes” on the questions of the so-called child protection referendum. The residents of Vassurány seemingly support

  • holding educational events on sexual orientation for minors, in public education institutions without parental consent;
  • the promotion of gender-reassignment treatments for minors;
  • the unrestricted exposure of minors to sexually explicit media content, that may influence their development;
  • showing minors media content on gender-changing procedures.

If the residents of Vassurány had voted only on the referendum, it would have turned out valid. More than 60 pc of the locals gave a valid answer to each question.

Dániel Forrai, the mayor of Vassurány, said that he respected everybody’s decision. Residents like each other, and they always put the development of the village first, he cleared. He added the outcome of the referendum would not affect that.

In Vassurány, the candidate of Fidesz won an easy victory. Péter Ágh received 69.49 pc of the votes, while his contestant got only 21.26 pc. Thus, nobody can say Vassurány is a liberal village backing the joint opposition or its opinion on the gender issue.
