Europe in intellectual, moral bankruptcy, says House speaker

Budapest (MTI) – Europe has plunged into total intellectual and moral bankruptcy, Laszlo Kover, Hungary’s parliamentary speaker, said.

The political leaders of the old member states of the European Union are unable to decide if the “invasion of illegal migrants” is an opportunity for easing shortage of manpower or a security risk that should be minimised or avoided, Kover told commercial Echo TV late on last weekend.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s move, which practically opened the gates and invited Syrians was not a manifestation of political weakness or a subjective error but a sign of the German political elite’s confusion, he said.

It makes things even worse that the EU member states and the European Union itself, if there is still any, has fallen into their deepest crisis of identity, Kover said.

However, the current wave of migration, which is still in its initial phase, will create a chance for putting some issues of identity on the agenda and forcing the EU to consider them earnestly, he said.

“Destroying your homeland or yourself is a matter of decision but one should also be allowed to stay apart. We would not like to commit suicide in any form, especially not in this one. We should be allowed to retain our culture and ethnic mix,” he said.
