EUR 3 billion for home renovations lost? Hungary fails to submit key climate plan

Hungary is risking missing out on European Union funds for home renovations because the government has failed to prepare a social climate plan by the end-of-June deadline, the leader of the opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) said on Friday.
Klára Dobrev, who is also one of DK’s MEPs, told an online press conference that she was one of the sponsors of the bill on creating a Social Climate Fund. The fund is part of an initiative to disburse non-refundable grants for home renovation.
“I also managed to secure a significant slice of this support for Hungarians,” Dobrev said, noting that Hungary is eligible for HUF 1,200 billion (EUR 3 billion) in funding for the renovation of prefabricated homes, apartment buildings and even communist-era detached homes.
“This is free European money that Hungary could have drawn down if the government had prepared a social climate plan by 30 June, but this cabinet didn’t do this,” she said.
