Election 2014 – Turnout 16.5 pc at 11am

Budapest, October 12 (MTI) – By 11am on Sunday, 16.5 percent of the around 8.2 million eligible voters had cast their ballots in Hungary’s local elections, the National Election Office reported.
A total of 1,347,873 people had gone to the polls in the first five hours, said the office.
Voter participation in the local elections four years ago was 16.31 percent by 11am.
Among the counties turnout was the largest in northern Hungary’s Heves, 19.87 percent and the lowest in western Hungary’s Zala, 15.12 percent.
Voter participation in Budapest stood at 14.47 percent at 11am.
Local mayors, municipal and minority representatives are elected in public-administrative districts, as well as the mayor of Budapest and its districts, in a first-past-the-post, single-round vote.
