Ecumenical Charity helped migrants over 30,000 times

Budapest, September 24 (MTI) – The Ecumenical Charity has provided humanitarian aid to migrants more than 30,000 times since Sept. 15, the charity said on Thursday.

The charity’s mobile team that had worked at Roszke before the Hungarian-Hungarian border was sealed on Sept. 15 moved to the Serbian side of the border for the period between Sept. 15 and 19, distributing canned food, fruit and mineral water to migrants in Horgos, Kanjiza (Magyarkanizsa) and Bezdan. They also used Arab interpreters to supply information to migrants.

The charity followed the route of migrants when it set up a logistics base at the Croatian border in Beremend on Sept. 18, and gradually expanded services to Barcs on the Croatian border and Hegyeshalom on the Austrian border where they were also handing out food and drinks, blankets, clothing and sanitary packs.

The mobile teams including around 30 people often worked until the early hours because many trains were arriving with migrants overnight.

The Ecumenical Charity received 66.5 million forints support from the Human Resources Ministry and donations from partner organisations of the international ACT Alliance based in Geneva.
