DK: Orbán, Hungary have lot to thank to Soros – Update

Budapest, May 20 (MTI) – Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has “once again attacked his former benefactor”, Hungarian-born US financier George Soros, to whom he and Hungary have a lot to be thankful, opposition DK said on Friday, responding to Orbán’s remarks in a public radio interview in which he lambasted Soros.
Orbán insisted that Soros is behind the criticism recently expressed by former President Bill Clinton.
In a statement, DK said Orbán can thank Soros for his “scholarship in England” and it was also thanks to Soros’s money that other Fidesz officials, József Szájer and Zsolt Németh and government spokesman Zoltán Kovács, had completed their studies.
“Hungary, as it goes through its post-communist transformation, also has a lot to thank Soros for, so Orbán and Fidesz are not only ingrates but their actions are harmful to Hungarian-US relations which are outstandingly important,” the statement said. Orbán is perhaps driven by Russian interests when he knowingly damages transatlantic relations, putting Hungary’s security at risk, it added.
Update
The ruling Fidesz party said in a statement that DK leader Ferenc Gyurcsány was “always the first” to bolster the forces of immigration, “namely George Soros and Brussels”. In a statement, the party said DK attacks the anti-immigration Hungarian government and its prime minister.
Fidesz added that Gyurcsány, the former prime minister, had planned to force into Hungary one million migrants. “In contrast to the party of immigration, DK, the Hungarian government is doing everything to stop Brussels,” the statement added.
