Deployment of Hungary contingent in North Iraq completed

Budapest, September 1 (MTI) – The deployment of a 116-strong contingent of the Hungarian army in the Kurdistan region of Iraq was completed last week, daily Magyar Idok, which ran under the name Napi Gazdasag until Aug. 31, said on Tuesday.
Some 110 troops have been dispatched to perform force protection tasks at the training centre in Erbil in northern Iraq, the paper said. Six soldiers will serve at various command posts in Baghdad, it added.
There are further 26 members of the contingent who stand ready in Hungary for deployment, the paper said.
Parliament passed a decree in April on Hungary contributing a contingent of up to 150 soldiers to the international mission fighting against Islamic State. The contingent is set to conclude its mission by December 31, 2017.
The budget earmarked for the mission is 20 billion forints (EUR 64m), the paper said.
