Debrecen battery plant construction project reaches new milestone

China’s EVE Power has been awarded an environmental permit for a battery plant it is building in Debrecen, local news portal haon.hu said on Friday, citing an announcement by the company.

EVE Power will use special technology for reclaiming wastewater at the plant, keeping the use of potable water in the manufacturing process to a minimum.

EVE Power announced the HUF 400bn plant in the spring of 2023. It is slated to be completed by end-2025 and production is set to start in 2026. The plant will supply a factory German car maker BMW is building in Debrecen.

Kecskemét to ‘profit greatly’ from cooperation with Mercedes, says minister

Kecskemét and all of Hungary will “profit greatly” from a cooperation with Mercedes, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said on Friday, after meeting with executives of the German car maker in Budapest.

Szijjártó met with Jorg Burzer, a member of the management board of Mercedes-Benz AG, and other executives from the company, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said in a statement. The sides discussed joint tasks, Szijjártó said.

He said Hungary’s partnership with Mercedes was a foundation for economic growth and the transition to electromobility. “Mercedes attaches special significance to its plant in Kecskemét, where it continues to scale up capacity and headcount,” he said. “Mercedes continues to bring cutting-edge automotive industry technology to Hungary, strengthening the country’s competitiveness and helping to make the economy one of the most modern in the world,” he added.
