Coronavirus in Hungary: number of deaths reaches new peak!

Fully 152 Covid patients, generally elderly and suffering from an underlying illness, have died over the past 24 hours, while 6,268 more virus cases have been officially registered, koronavirus.gov.hu said on Saturday.

The total number of cases since the first outbreak in the country has risen to 204,708, while the death toll now stands at 4,516. Fully 54,021 people have made a recovery.

Active infections number 146,171, while there are 7,536 hospitalised patients, 644 on ventilators.

Fully 51,142 people are in official home quarantine, while the number of tests carried out has risen to 1,622,765.

So far, most coronavirus cases have been registered in Budapest (45,054) and Pest County (26,582), followed by the counties of Gyor-Moson-Sopron (13,454), Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen (12,180) and Hajdu-Bihar (10,707). Tolna (3,006) has the fewest cases.

Temporary control of Schengen border extended in Hungary!

Citing the decree published in the official gazette Magyar Közlöny on Wednesday, Róbert Kiss noted there are a total of 130 border crossings along the Schengen border in Hungary, including on public roads, rail routes and waterways. Read more HERE!

Meanwhile, he said that in line with a government decision in force from Thursday, persons with mental disability are exempted from wearing a face mask.

Since the publication of the government decree on mask-wearing since Sept. 21, police action has been taken against 8,759 people for violating mask-wearing rules, he added.
