Cooler trains from this year in Hungary

MÁV-START modernizes its trains further. Between 2012 and 2014, 341 wagons participating in the suburban transportation of Budapest were restored, 150 of which were decorated with swallow motifs. This year, an additional 106 vehicles will be renovated, and 25 fast train carriages will be renewed to be suitable for transporting bikes.

According to the report of MÁV-START, the large number of passengers and the age of the carriages are the reasons for continuing the refurbishment programme to ensure a comfortable journey.

The changes mostly affect those wagons that are obsolete, but still can be used for years.

According to the railway company, ”there are fresher colours in the interior, fitting the bird motifs. The replaced flooring, the wear-resistant upholstery, the repaired window frames and insulation, and the anti-graffiti coating on the walls raise passengers’ comfort levels.”

There are 79 seats in a wagon, and the maximum speed is 120 km/h. The trains primarily transport passengers between Budapest and Szolnok, Lajosmizse, and Szob. The 106 vehicles to be renovated this year are planned to take part in the suburban traffic, but they can also be used as fast trains, if necessary. At the same time, more than 50 locomotives will get new colours and polishing.
