Big changes to tram and HÉV service in Budapest begin this weekend

Tram service on lines 2B, 51, and 51A will be disrupted from this Saturday through 1 August due to the construction of the Mester Street crossing, the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) announced Thursday.
Replacement buses for trams
Line 51 replacement buses will operate between Mester utca / Ferenc körút and Koppány utca in place of the trams. According to BKK, a new street-level crossing is being built across the tram tracks on Mester Street from Saturday, 12 July, through Friday, 1 August. As a result, tram 2B will run on a shortened route between Pesterzsébet, Pacsirtatelep and Mester utca / Könyves Kálmán körút, while lines 51 and 51A will be suspended.
Passengers on tram 2B heading toward the city centre are advised to transfer at Haller utca and take tram 23. Travellers coming from the city centre can board the 51 replacement bus at Boráros tér. Additional bus lines offering alternate routes between Pesterzsébet and the city centre include 223E, 224, and 224E buses.

One HÉV line also suspended
Due to maintenance work, the H7 HÉV will not operate between 12 July and 19 July. Passengers will be transported by replacement buses between Boráros tér and Szent Imre tér, and from Szent Imre tér to Csepel HÉV Station via regular bus lines, according to a statement from the Budapest Transport Centre.
This means a replacement bus marked H7 will serve the route between Boráros tér and Szent Imre tér. To reach the Csepel HÉV station, travellers can take buses 35, 36, 71, 148, 151, 152, and 159, or buses 38, 38A, 138, 238, and 278.
In Boráros tér, the replacement buses depart from the inner bus terminal at the original stop for bus 224. On Csepel, passengers can board the buses at the Szent Imre tér bus terminal near Kiss János altábornagy Street or at the HÉV station. During this period, bus 224 will depart from the Boráros tér terminal, behind the final stop of bus 212.
Additionally, from 6 PM Saturday, 12 July, through 8 AM Monday, 14 July, the HÉV crossing at the intersection of II. Rákóczi Ferenc Road and Károli Gáspár Street will be closed. As a result, buses 38, 38A, 138, 238, and 278 will be rerouted toward their outer terminals via Kossuth Lajos Street instead of II. Rákóczi Ferenc Road between Szent Imre tér and the Csepel H station.
Bus line 179 will also be rerouted toward Csepeli Hospital between Szent Imre tér and Déli Street, bypassing stops at Szent Imre tér, Karácsony Sándor Street, and Mansfeld Péter Street. On this detoured section, passengers can board the 179 in Kossuth Lajos Street at the stop shared with bus 35 at Karácsony Sándor Street and Görgey Artúr Square.
