Central Statistical Office reports rising living standards in Hungary

Budapest, December 1 (MTI) – Households’ incomes and average living standards have increased in Hungary, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Thursday.

Average real incomes in 2015 were 4.7 percent higher than a year before, while the income levels of the poorest were up by 5-6 percent, KSH said in its report for last year.

KSH official Áron Kincses told a press conference that the number of people in deep poverty has continued to decrease, from 293,000 in 2014 to 185,000, or from 3 percent to 1.9 percent of the total population.

Household consumption has now picked up with pre-crisis levels, with the average person spending nearly one million forints last year, Kincses added.
