Hungarian central bank cautious: here’s the latest base rate decision

Members of the Monetary Council of the National Bank of Hungary (NBH) voted unanimously to keep the central bank base rate on hold at 6.50% at a monthly policy meeting in March, the minutes from the meeting released on Wednesday show.

The decision, on 25 March, was in line with the policymakers’ “stability-oriented” approach. “Council members agreed that a careful and patient approach to monetary policy remained necessary due to upside risks to inflation as well as trade policy and geopolitical tensions,” the minutes said.

“Members reaffirmed their stance that the uncertain international environment and the outlook for inflation warranted the maintenance of tight monetary conditions,” the minutes show.
