Three passengers on the tram and two on the bus suffered light injuries. Consequently, the authorities closed the square to traffic. Instead of trams nr 17, 19, and 41, replacement buses carry the passengers between the Lukács Thermal Bath and the Memorial of the Katyn Martyrs stations. Bus nr 29 is in service up to Kolosy Square from both directions, but you can only cross the square if you get on the other bus.

The disaster management authority told the media that they closed Bécsi Street and Szépvölgyi Street at their full width.

Inexperienced bus drivers in Budapest?

Comment writers on the Facebook page of Budapesti Autósok wrote that the bus driver holds responsibility for the accident because he did not consider the red sign of the lamp and tried to continue his route. Meanwhile, the tram conductor forgot to assess the situation by turning his head left. He was probably looking in the right mirror, checking the platform after leaving the station.

A comment writer said such accidents were regularly caused by inexperienced bus drivers who have to start driving due to the lack of workforce at the company. Others believe that due to the labour shortage, active bus drivers must work too much, so they do not have enough rest time between shifts.
