Good news: Budapest Airport back in operation after historic storm

Thanks to Budapest Airport’s quick response and the cooperation of our staff, Terminal 2A at Ferenc Liszt International Airport reopened this morning – the arrivals level of the temporarily closed Terminal 2A was partially reopened late last night, while the departure level reopened early this morning. Traffic is running according to schedule, with no delays at the moment, Budapest Airport wrote in an official statement uploaded on their Facebook page.

The repair of the remaining storm damage is in progress and information for passengers is still regularly updated in the terminal and on the airport’s communication channels. As thunderstorms are expected today as well, Budapest Airport kindly asks passengers to check the departure and arrival times of their flights.

The heavy winds and storm that also hit the airport yesterday caused serious damage to the airport infrastructure, with water leakage detected in Terminal 2A following damage to fire alarm equipment and the wind tore up pieces of pavement in several cases. Budapest Airport has temporarily closed this part of the building, and passenger check-in procedures took place in Terminal 2B until this morning.
