BREAKING: Budapest Airport runway, terminal closed after severe thunderstorms – UPDATED

The heavy thunderstorm activity over the last half hour has also affected Ferenc Liszt International Airport. Due to debris on the runways, the runways were temporarily closed for safety reasons, then runway 1 was reopened at 16:00 after cleaning.
Water leakage was detected in the departures hall of Terminal 2A, therefore, all check-in procedures take place at Terminal 2B. There were no personal injuries and the damage assessment is ongoing. The storm has also affected the surrounding roads, please check for possible traffic changes before departure.

According to the Hungarian News Agency, at around 4pm that the airport was temporarily closed due to storm debris falling on the runways. “The runways have been closed and the airport’s operations suspended for safety reasons,” the operator said in a statement.
The departure hall of Terminal 2A has been evacuated as it was partially flooded. All passengers are being checked in at Terminal 2B. The storm has also affected surrounding highways, and passengers are advised to keep up to date with traffic changes.
