A record number of beaches competed this year for the title of Lake Balaton’s Best Beach 2025, with bathing spots evaluated under strict criteria. The results are in – here are the top-rated Balaton beaches and special award winners!
Beach Certification 2025
As hirbalaton.hu reported, Lake Balaton once again showcased its diversity and quality at the start of the beach season, as the Blue Wave Flag (Kék Hullám Zászló) beach certification was held for the 22nd time. This year saw a record 47 Balaton beaches participate, all evaluated by a professional committee based on strict criteria. Site inspections began on June 20, 2025, and continued over six days, involving experts from the Women for Balaton Association, Balaton Circle, the Balaton Uplands National Park, and the Hungarian Tourism Agency. The aim of the competition is to highlight developments at Lake Balaton’s beaches and improvements in service quality — benefiting both tourists and local communities.
Best beaches at Lake Balaton 2025
The title of Best Beach at Lake Balaton 2025 was awarded to the Lidó Beach in Vonyarcvashegy, which excelled in every category assessed. Criteria included parking availability, restroom conditions, cleanliness, accessibility, landscaping, playground quality, sports facilities, and food and beverage options. This year, digital accessibility and online presence were particularly important factors — including the currency of websites, social media activity, and marketing campaigns. Notably, the Vonyarcvashegy Lidó Beach also won this prestigious title in 2022.
Additional awards
In addition to the grand prize, several special awards recognised the diversity of beaches at Lake Balaton. The “Gastro Beach” award went to the Central Beach of Balatonfenyves, celebrated for its focus on quality local products and culinary offerings. The “Active Beach” award honored the Balatonberény Municipal Beach, popular among sports enthusiasts, while the Révfülöp Napfény Camping Beach, a leader in environmental education, earned the “Green Frog Award.” Emphasising nature and habitat protection, the “Green Nest Award” was presented to the Balatonberény Berény Naturist Beach. These accolades highlight that Balaton offers more than leisure — it’s also a destination for active recreation, eco-conscious experiences, and standout gastronomy.
Balaton has once again proven in 2025 to be one of Hungary’s most popular and rapidly developing tourist destinations. Thanks to the beach rating system, towns and operators along the lake are raising service standards year after year. With a variety of awards and recognitions, everyone can find their ideal Balaton beach — whether it’s a family-friendly water park, nature-oriented campsite, or a culinary hotspot by the water.
