Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict ‘close to still point’, FM Szijjártó says

The conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, “one of many conflicts in the world apart from the war in Ukraine” could “come to a still point” with a recent deal between the two countries, the foreign minister said on Friday.
Péter Szijjártó said on Facebook after talks with Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov, however, that “naturally, this may not mean completion of the peace process, but it is a very important step towards peoples in the Caucasus regaining the opportunity for a peaceful life.”
“We are glad to see this development and hope that this deal will be followed by a true peace agreement,” Szijjártó said.

Middle East security has big impact on European security
The security situation in the Middle East greatly affects European security, Szijjártó said on Saturday after a phone call with Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty. “So Hungary has an interest in ensuring stability, peace and calm in the region,” he said in a post on Facebook.
Given recent volatility, Hungary “highly appreciates any initiative that aims to return stability” to the Middle East, he said, adding that Egypt “has always acted responsibly” and enhanced European security “by keeping migrants in check”. Szijjártó said Egypt still played a key role “in finding reassuring answers to the challenges in the Middle East”.
