Is the United States really preparing against PM Viktor Orbán?

The international environment regarding the Hungarian government is changing, mainly due to the incoming new leadership of the United States of America, and the cabinet will find itself in a difficult situation with international partners, said Gábor Török, evaluating the most important political developments of 2020 in the ATV Egyenes Beszéd (Straight Talk) program.

According to the political analyst, by 2022, cases that came after the 2014 Hungarian elections may emerge, and ban scandals are usually summed up in headlines. He thinks that PM Viktor Orbán should have expected that when he spectacularly sided with Donald Trump in the US presidential campaign or, for example, Péter Szijjártó attacked the then-presidential candidate Joe Biden on corruption charges, these would not go unanswered, writes Telex.

Gábor Török added: a Hungarian political analyst obviously has very little information about what is happening in the American workshops,

“but what I hear from American colleagues about how the new team is preparing, they are trying to make sure we expect something even worse than what we are counting on.”

According to Török, Orbán did not necessarily have room to manoeuvre before the election; if Trump had won, it would have been very good for him, so he sharpened tensions so much that if it came to that, it would be possible to present it in a way that small Hungary is attacked by the big United States of America. The analyst thinks that this is not necessarily a bad position for Hungarian PM Orbán.

The possible consequences of the US presidential election on Hungarian domestic politics can be seen in detail in this video with English subtitles.

Gábor Török previously gave an interview to Népszava. In it, he said, among other things, that the Hungarian ruling party’s epidemiological communication is inadequate. The impact of the Szájer case was brutal.

The leading political force in the opposition is the Democratic Coalition. The political analyst believes that the key to the change of government may be Ferenc Gyurcsány, President of the DK.
