Wages at Daimler plant in Hungary to rise 20 pc

Budapest (MTI) – Wages at German carmaker Daimler’s plant in Hungary will rise 20 percent in the next two years, daily Magyar Idők said on Saturday.

The paper learnt from union leaders that supplements would also rise along with base wages, meaning workers at the plant in Kecskemét, in central Hungary, could take home 45 percent more pay in two years.

Zoltán László, the deputy head of the Ironworkers Union, said union representatives had reached agreements with four more big companies during the week on pay rises between 10 and 16 percent.

Hungary’s government recently agreed with employers and unions on raising the minimum wage for skilled labourers by 25 percent from next year and 12 percent in the following year.
