EP Elections – Orban: “We’ve Won; We’ve Won Big-time!”

Budapest, May 26 (MTI) – “We’ve won; we’ve won big-time!” Prime Minister Viktor Orban said after the results of the European parliamentary elections were released, showing the Fidesz-KDNP alliance with over 51 percent, translating into 12 EP seats.
Speaking at the Millenaris Park in central Budapest, Orban told a crowd of supporters that Fidesz had secured the best result in the EPP group.
Fidesz’s elected representatives will be “the troops sent forward,” who can protect the homeland abroad, Orban said.
He said the party’s MEPs would work to win respect for Hungarians and represent their interests, as well as making the voice of Hungarians heard in Brussels. Hungarians are united in rejecting extremes, he added.
“Hungarians are building a country which has a great future.”
Hungarian MEPs should also warn the EU institutions “not to leave the right track and not to choose a path which is incompatible with our culture, the common values of European Christian civilisation.”
The prime minister welcomed the results of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ) and Slovakia’s Party of the Hungarian Community (MKP), which also secured seats in the European Parliament. Hungarians will be represented in Brussels more vigorously than ever, he said.
Orban also noted that Hungary produced the highest voter turnout from among the six central European EU members states.
