Pick your own lavender at Lake Balaton! – VIDEO

Each summer, the Tihany Lavender House Visitor Centre organises an array of lavender-related programmes, but by far the most spectacular is the ‘Pick Your Own’ lavender harvest, welovebalaton.hu reports. Between June 20 and 26, anyone can participate in the experience and bring home hand-picked lavender.

The Balaton Uplands National Park cultivates a lavender field by the road leading to Tihany, whose history stretches back to the 1920s. If you would like to take part in the lavender harvest, you can do so from June 20 until June 26, between 10am and 8pm, each day.

The event itself is free of charge and does not require registration, however, lavender can be picked only into harvest bags which have to be purchased on the spot for HUF 2000 (EUR 6.35). Participants should bring their own tools (knifes, secateurs, scissors), as these will be provided only in limited numbers. The location of the field can be found here.

The lavender-picking event is part of the Tihany Lavender Festival and Lavender Weeks, which are held between June 20 and July 1.

Lavender is famous for its versatile usage. It can be blended with teas, used in cooking, in fragrances, or as essential oils. The purple flowers are great for home decor as well as deterring moths and freshening linen. They are also very efficient in alleviating anxiety and helping relaxation. (Wikipedia)
