New Austrian chancellor brings no ‘change of culture’, says Hungary’s foreign minister

Budapest, May 24 (MTI) – Hungary’s foreign minister on Tuesday bemoaned the lack of change in political tone in Austria after Christian Kern was sworn in as the new chancellor.
Reacting to Kern referring to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán as “authoritarian”, Péter Szijjártó said Kern’s remarks were “disappointing”.
Austria’s previous chancellor, Werner Faymann, also used language that conjured up the “darkest dictatorships of the 20th century”. The new chancellor has not brought about a change of culture, Szijjarto said, adding that such language was “un-European and unacceptable”.
Austria’s management of the migrant crisis reflects “frustration and hypocrisy”, the minister said. While Austria debating whether to build gates on its border, the chancellor should refrain from making such comments, he added.
Regarding the presidential election, he said Hungary respects the decision of Austrian voters.
