Budapest ranked among the best family travel destination this summer!

Budapest has been named the fifth-best destination in Europe for families travelling during the summer of 2025, according to the latest research by DiscoverCars.com. The study evaluated over 100 European cities based on a range of factors, including accessibility, accommodation and car rental prices, local attractions, and weather conditions.

Budapest: Family-friendly activities and top-notch accessibility

Based on overall scores, Hungary’s capital secured a spot among the top-ranked cities on DiscoverCars list. One of Budapest’s standout advantages is its outstanding transport connectivity: Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport handles 203 flights daily, making the city easily accessible from almost anywhere in the world.

Once in the city, getting around is easy. While Budapest is highly walkable, Tram Line 2 offers a particularly scenic journey—considered one of the most picturesque tram routes globally, thanks to its stunning views of the Danube Riverand the Buda Castle District.

Families with young children will find no shortage of engaging activities. The Palace of Wonders features interactive exhibits that introduce scientific concepts in a fun and accessible way, while the charming Children’s Railway—operated by children—offers a one-hour journey through the scenic Normafa area.

While theHungarian capital’s iconic thermal baths are often favoured by adults, the city also boasts several outdoor water parks with slides and playful attractions that are perfect for families.

The summer weather is another major draw: in June, July, and August, average daytime temperatures hover around 27°C (81°F)—ideal for exploring green spaces, historic landmarks, and riverside promenades.

Szeged and Debrecen also make the list

Budapest isn’t the only Hungarian city to be recognised. Szeged ranked 35th, thanks largely to Napfényfürdő Aquapolis, one of Europe’s largest water parks—offering a perfect escape from the summer heat.

Debrecen came in at 44th, with its Agora Science Centre praised as a fun, interactive learning hub for both children and adults.

The top cities for a family summer vacation

The top spot went to Timișoara, Romania, celebrated for its compact attractions, affordable pricing, and pleasant climate. In second place was Kumanovo, North Macedonia, where visitors benefit from low-cost accommodation and fascinating natural sites like the Kokino Megalithic Observatory. Warsaw secured third place with its 82 parks and budget-friendly car rentals, while Madrid ranked fourth thanks to its extensive air travel network and vibrant family attractions.
