Hungarian man plots murders of 3 rivals, hires Russian acquaintances as hitmen

A chilling murder-for-hire plot has been uncovered in Hungary: a 47-year-old businessman from Kecskemét allegedly planned to have three of his rivals killed with the help of his Russian acquaintances, according to Hungarian law enforcement authorities.

The man reportedly wanted to eliminate his partner and two male acquaintances, driven by personal conflicts and financial disputes. Investigators from the National Bureau of Investigation (Nemzeti Nyomozó Iroda, NNI) discovered that he offered to pay for the killings from an upcoming business income of around HUF 100 million (approx. EUR 250,000), the State Secretariat for Law Enforcement reported on its Facebook page. As part of the elaborate plan, he intended to travel to Spain during the murders to create a solid alibi and distance himself from the crimes.

Authorities learned about the plot before it could be carried out. The suspect was arrested at his temporary residence in Budapest.

He has been formally charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

The man refused to make a statement

According to police, he refused to make a statement, and criminal proceedings are ongoing while he remains in pre-trial detention.

The case has sparked public concern and media attention, particularly due to the involvement of foreign nationals and the premeditated nature of the plan. Hungarian officials have not released further details about the Russian individuals mentioned in the scheme.
