What’s behind the buzz? PM Orbán’s eldest daughter, Ráhel Orbán, may move abroad with her family – UPDATED

Ráhel Orbán, the eldest daughter of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, is a prominent figure in Hungary’s beauty and tourism sectors. Her husband, István Tiborcz, is known as the third-wealthiest Hungarian. Now, the family is reportedly considering relocating to the United States.

Ráhel Orbán eyes a move to the USA

Ráhel’s Instagram profile is public, and shortly after she shared a recent post, Hungarian media caught wind of the family’s potential plans. She revealed that 15 years ago, she spent a semester at Boston University and has now been admitted to another American university. With their youngest child, Berci, starting school this September, Ráhel believes this is the perfect time to return to the U.S. to pursue professional growth. She also highlighted the benefits her children could gain from living in the States—openness, flexibility, and independence.

In her post, Ráhel emphasised her goal to learn, experience, and bring new knowledge back home. She praised the United States for its dynamic energy, inspiring competitive environment, and wealth of opportunities.

Interestingly, she did not mention her husband’s plans. István Tiborcz’s wealth, largely from his interests in multiple private equity funds, has been reported as the third-highest in Hungary. His BDPST Group owns several luxury hotels in downtown Budapest, including the recent acquisition of the Marriott Hotel. Ráhel noted that the family is still discussing the possibility of moving abroad and that no final decision has been made yet.

Ráhel Orbán: Hungary’s 3rd most influential woman

Ráhel serves as the Creative Director of BDPST Group and Managing Director of BDPST Koncept, a brand-building and communication agency within the group. She also launched Odu Store, a premium brand for young children.

Her impressive academic background includes a degree in tourism and hospitality from Corvinus University of Budapest, an Executive MBA in Hospitality Management from École hôtelière de Lausanne, and studies in cultural subjects at Université Paris-Sorbonne and Boston University. She is fluent in Hungarian, English, French, German, and Italian.

In 2024, Forbes named her the third most influential woman in Hungary. The family briefly moved to Marbella in 2021 but returned to Hungary a year later.

UPDATE: Válasz Online writes the issue has been settled weeks ago

According to a Facebook post by Válasz Online, an independent Hungarian media outlet, the matter has essentially been resolved: the official school affairs of the children—unenrollment from Hungary and enrollment in the USA—were finalised weeks ago. They also revealed that Ráhel’s Instagram post appeared just hours after they sent 18 questions to her BDPST Koncept Ltd regarding – among others – the issue of relocation.

Moreover, they also noticed what we mentioned earlier: the Orbán-Tiborcz couple left the country even before the 2022 general elections.
