VIDEO: Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) upgrades fleet with Siemens locomotives

State-owned MÁV is upgrading its fleet with 100 locomotives by end-2026, MÁV group CEO Zsolt Hegyi said in a video message on social media on Tuesday.

Hegyi said 30 of the locomotives had been delivered, and 24 were already in service. The hundred-unit order includes 60 Siemens Vectron locomotives that are 2-4 years old, he added.

Hegyi emphasized that upgrading to better locomotives is key to ensuring trains run on time. He pointed out that such a comprehensive locomotive overhaul hasn’t been seen since the 1980s, marking a significant milestone in railway modernization.
