Inspired by travel: New airport hotel opens in Hungary! – VIDEO

Debrecen’s hospitality sector has reached a new milestone with the unveiling of the ibis Styles Debrecen Airport Hotel, the first hotel built in the immediate vicinity of Debrecen International Airport, Hungary’s second busiest air hub. The project, a partnership between the XANGA Group and international hotel giant Accor, is set to play a pivotal role in the city’s burgeoning tourism and business landscape. The hotel is set to open at the beginning of July.
A modern, aviation-inspired hotel for business and leisure
The four-story ibis Styles Debrecen Airport Hotel boasts 72 modern rooms and 16 spacious apartments, designed with a unique aviation theme that pays homage to its location, Dehir reports. The property offers a range of amenities, including a contemporary restaurant, bar, café, and well-equipped meeting rooms, catering to both short-term travellers and guests on extended stays.
Hotel manager Mykola Tumanovskyi emphasised at the official presentation that this is the first ibis Styles property in Debrecen. “We look forward to our guests experiencing and feeling this unique technology and design,” he said, highlighting the brand’s commitment to creative aesthetics and comfort. The hotel is classified as a three-star superior, but its design and services evoke a four-star experience.
Strategic location for a booming city
Strategically located just steps from the airport terminal, the hotel is ideally positioned for business travellers and tourists arriving by air. Its opening addresses a longstanding gap in the local hospitality market, as Debrecen’s rapid economic development and growing international profile have driven demand for high-quality, conveniently located accommodation.
According to István Herdon, CEO of XANGA Ventures, the hotel is not only a much-needed addition to the airport’s environment but also a catalyst for further business infrastructure development in the city. “It targets a new segment; this 3-star superior category is practically a service hotel. It also fills a gap in its location as it develops the business environment of Debrecen International Airport, and the airport serves as a key gateway to the city,” Herdon explained.
Tourism and business on the rise in Debrecen
The opening comes at a time of record-breaking tourism in Debrecen. In 2024, the city welcomed more than 234,000 visitors, with overnight stays surpassing 690,000: a 19% increase from the previous year, The Debrecen Sun reported earlier this year. Nearly half of these guest nights were from international travellers. The number of foreign guest nights in Debrecen has risen by nearly 22% annually, outpacing even the growth rate of Budapest.
This surge is driven by a combination of year-round cultural events, international sports tournaments, and a thriving business and conference tourism sector. Investments in new hotels, such as the ibis Styles and the recently opened Hilton Garden Inn, reflect and reinforce Debrecen’s status as a key business and leisure destination in Hungary.
