FM Szijjártó: steps putting some member states’ energy security at serious risk unacceptable

Péter Szijjártó, the foreign minister, has written a letter to the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas on energy security guarantees for Hungary pledged by the European Commission.
Szijjártó said in the letter sent on Sunday that two of the four guarantees had been violated: one ensuring Hungary a place at the table during talks on the restart of gas transit deliveries via Ukraine; the other an assurance that Ukraine would not attack infrastructure used for energy deliveries to the EU.
He said Hungary had not been invited to talks on the transit deliveries, and noted that Ukraine had carried out a drone attack on a compressor station of the TurkStream pipeline, of key importance to Hungary’s secure gas supply.
Szijjártó said steps putting some member states’ energy security at serious risk, contrary to earlier pledges, were “unacceptable” and called out the EC for representing the interests of an EU candidate over those of member states.
Szijjártó called on Kallas to inform the country of measures the EC is taking to ensure the guarantees it pledged earlier.
