Hungary expands its thermal bath offerings with new medicinal waters and bath
In a significant development for Hungary’s renowned thermal tourism sector, the country has welcomed six new medicinal waters and one new thermal bath within a span of just four months. This expansion highlights Hungary’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its wellness tourism offerings.
Newly recognised medicinal waters
According to TermálOnline, several locations across Hungary have recently received official recognition for their medicinal waters:
- Mezőkövesd: The VII. well has been designated as a source of medicinal water, adding to the existing thermal wells in the area.
- Bükfürdő: The thermal water from the Greenfield Hotel has also earned the medicinal designation.
- Földesi Thermal Bath: This seasonal bath has gained recognition for its therapeutic water.
- Makó: The Hagymatikum bath has added another thermal well to its offerings, bringing its total to three recognised medicinal waters.
- Szentes: The Szentes Sports and Leisure Centre (Szentesi Sport- és Üdülőközpont) has had its thermal water certified as medicinal.
- Mórahalom: The Móradomb Thermal Water (Móradombi Gyógyvíz) has been included in the list of recognised medicinal waters, increasing the town’s total to six.
This recent certification process reflects Hungary’s dedication to maintaining and promoting its rich natural resources, particularly in the realm of health and wellness.
The newest thermal bath
At the end of 2023, a new thermal bath was officially recognised in Dévaványa, marking it as Hungary’s latest addition to the array of therapeutic baths. The bath offers a variety of facilities aimed at recreational tourism, including:
- A thermal pool
- Two swimming pools with infinity edges
- A children’s pool
One unique feature of this bath is a free slide attached to the outdoor swimming pool, providing entertainment for both children and adults. For those seeking relaxation, there is also a therapeutic pool available. Baths in Bükkszék and Bihar Termálliget have also been upgraded to official thermal bath status.
A growing list of healing waters
Hungary is known as a land rich in healing waters, and recent updates to the official national registry of medicinal waters and baths reflect this growth. Over the past year, eight new sources of medicinal water have been added, along with four new thermal baths. This expansion not only enhances Hungary’s reputation as a wellness destination but also provides locals and tourists alike with more options for health and relaxation.
