Public health centre: epidemic subsiding

The fifth wave of the coronavirus epidemic peaked at the end of January and has been stagnating and subsiding since, an official of the National Public Health Centre (NNK) said on Thursday.

The concentration of traces of the virus is still stagnating at high level in waste water but the number of registered infections has been continually decreasing, by 13 percent on the fifth week and 32 percent on the 6th week, which shows a downward trend, head of the epidemiology department Ágnes Galgóczi told public news channel M1. Based on current data, another rapid increase in case numbers is not expected, she added.

Over the past two weeks, most infections were registered among people aged 30 to 50, whereas previously the majority of new infections had been children, she said.
