Young Hungarians are the 5th poorest in the EU!
The average rate of young people struggling with severe material and social deprivation was 7 pc in the EU in 2020. That is a 2 pc rise compared to 2019.
Based on a new Eurostat survey summed up by 24.hu, the rate was 24 pc in Romania, making the country the leader of the relevant list in the EU. Bulgaria is second with 21 pc, while in third place is Greece with 16 pc. Hungary is in fifth place, together with Ireland. Eurostat says that ten per cent of young Hungarians (aged 20-29) struggle with severe material and social deprivation.
The rate is below 3 pc in, for example, Luxembourg, Finland or the Netherlands. Furthermore, it is lower than 3 pc in Croatia or Poland as well. Meanwhile, the situation of Slovakian youth improved the most in 2020.
