This is now the most expensive Hungarian painting! – PHOTO

One of the paintings of Tivadar Kosztka Csontváry was sold in the Virág Judit Gallery for 460 million HUF (EUR 1.242 million) in Budapest. The deal made it the most expensive Hungarian painting ever sold on the market. Its title is “Secret island”.

According to Helló Magyar, the starting price for Tivadar Csontváry Kosztka’s (1853-1919) work was 160 million forints (EUR 440,000). As we reported before, the painting dating from 1903 is one of Csontváry’s “most enigmatic” works, art historian Anna Kelen told in a press conference.
