Coronavirus – Hungary gets new delivery of favipiravir from China
Another delivery of 1 million tablets of medicine with the active ingredient favipiravir, a drug used to treat coronavirus patients, arrived in Hungary early on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Facebook.
Szijjártó said that including this latest delivery, Hungary has received a total of 4.8 million tablets: 2.8 million from China and 2 million from Japan.
Talks will continue on further deliveries if the operative body responsible for handling the epidemic so decides, he added.
Transfusion service: Over 350 blood plasma donors registered
More than 350 people have registered to donate blood plasma since early last month, the Hungarian National Blood Transfusion Service’s (OVSZ) deputy director said on Monday.
The proportion of people approved as donors in Hungary is higher during the current second wave of the coronavirus pandemic than during the spring, with one-fourth of potential donors proving to have blood plasma suitable for therapy,
Sándor Nagy told public news broadcaster M1.
A person registering to donate blood plasma must present a positive PCR test result, he said, adding that OVSZ welcomes any donor approved to return on multiple occasions.
The procedure involves using a special equipment which can take 600 milliliters of blood plasma in one sample suitable to treat one Covid patient, Nagy said.
