Does the Hungarian government want to leave the EU? Here is its answer

Hungarian Regional Development Minister Tibor Navracsics is due to travel to Brussels next week to discuss EU funds. He told atv.hu that the Orbán cabinet has no intention of leaving the European Union.

In response to a journalist’s question, the minister said that the Hungarian government has formally notified the Commission of its request for the share of the EU’s recovery billions.

As we reported, Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for Budget, recently met Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in Budapest. During the meeting, the possibility of the Commission cutting off funds did not arise, Mr Navracsics said.

Atv.hu asked the Regional Development Minister if Hungary ever plans to leave the European Union.

“No, of course not,”

Mr Navracsics replied. “Brexit is proof that it is no longer possible to leave the EU in a good way,” he stressed.
