Video: Cordon-breaking outside PM Orbán’s office

Shortly after 9 AM on Tuesday, independent and opposition politicians dismantled the cordons in front of the Carmelite monastery, Budapest, Hungary. The building houses PM Viktor Orbán’s office. The operation involved the parliamentary faction of Momentum and independent opposition politician Ákos Hadházy. Police tried to stop the politicians, with little success.
The politicians wanted to fix the poster “Seven points for the renewal of Hungary” to the main entrance of the Carmelite monastery. However, the police blocked this with their bodies. Finally, they managed to stick it on the wall, 444.hu reports. Among the demands were the restoration of freedom of the press, the abolition of the special legal order, free elections or the end of corruption organised from within government circles.
444.hu quoted Hadházy as saying that the cordon is a symbol of lying. This house, the Carmelite, is the centre of the propaganda machine. The masses must believe that results can be achieved, he said.
The politicians then went to the other side of the street, where they also dismantled the barriers. The police had set up a line, but did not intervene. The action ended at about half past nine.
The cordons were erected in front of the monastery a year and a half ago. Their purpose may be to keep the press out.
