Ukraine furious over PM Orbán’s “disparaging” comments – here is what they did
PM Orbán suggested during a conversation with foreign journalists invited by the MCC, a government-close higher education institution, to Budapest that Ukraine would lose the war. Furthermore, he compared Ukraine to Afghanistan. Not surpsisingly, the Ukrainians became outraged and summoned the Hungarian ambassador to Kyiv.
The Hungarian foreign ministry called PM Orbán’s comments “disparaging” and urged the government to end “what it called anti-Ukrainian rhetoric”, Reuters wrote.
Orbán said last week that Ukraine was a no man’s land, compared it to Afghanistan and ensured his audience that he did not think Kyiv could prevail against Putin’s invading Russia.
Hungary’s ambassador, István Íjgyártó, received “a strong protest in connection with the recent disparaging statements of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán,” the Ukrainian foreign ministry said. “It was emphasised to the Hungarian diplomat that the anti-Ukrainian rhetoric, which has been heard from the Hungarian leadership for a long time, is absolutely unacceptable and causes serious damage to Ukrainian-Hungarian relations”, the ministry added.
Concluding the issue, the Ukrainian foreign ministry talked about the irreparable consequences concerning the relations between the two countries.
Incomprehensible destruction in Ukraine:
The Orbán administration regularly highlights that despite the Ukrainian government’s anti-minority laws concerning the language, cultural, etc. rights of the Hungarian ethnic minority living in Transcarpathia, Ukraine, they helped the refugees. However, the government cleared that Hungary would not allow the Western allies to deliver arms through the Ukrainian-Hungarian border. Furthermore, Orbán and his ministers always highlight the importance of an immediate ceasefire and quick peace. However, that is only imaginable if the Ukrainians accept the Russian claims over some lands that are not even occupied by Russian forces in the four Eastern and Southern counties.
