Hungarian opposition received more than EUR 7.6 million from the US

Action for Democracy, an NGO in the US, sent the opposition Everyone’s Hungary Movement and associated organisations and businesses over HUF 3 billion (EUR 7.6 million), a higher sum than previously thought, according to the National Information Center (NIK).
The website of parliament’s national security committee on Wednesday released transcript of evidence given by NIK head Brigadier-General Zoltán András Kovács suggesting that the total amount of funding provided by the US organisation was HUF 3.174 billion (EUR 8.2 million), around HUF 160 million (EUR 412,628) more than previously stated.
This funding was on top of funding from other sources totalling HUF 1.1 billion (EUR 2.8 million), HUF 900 million (EUR 2.3 million) of which came from a Swiss foundation “with the same aims” as the American NGO, according to the transcript.
Foreign financial funding sent to Hungary exceeded HUF 4 billion (EUR 10.3 million), it added, with various political analysts and marketing specialists the ultimate beneficiaries among others.
