Politico: Orbán is “the enemy within”

Every year, Politico compiles a list of who has the biggest impact on Europe. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is on the list, and he has been labelled an enemy within.
Politico list
Alongside the most influential person on the continent, politicians are ranked in three categories: doers, dreamers, subversives. According to Politico, each category represents a different type of power wielding.
The most influential man in Europe is Ukrainian President Volodmyr Zelensky. Europe is changing by reassessing its strategic relations and defence as well as by rethinking trade, accession and energy security, rtl.hu reports. And it is done so with the influence of Ukraine’s comic-turned-president, according to Politico.
German Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck was the first to act. The Green Party politician has been central to how far the European Union should go with sanctions against Russia.
Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin topped the list of dreamers. Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has been labelled “the loser”, was also put in this group.
Viktor Orbán and the subversives
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni tops the list of subversives. The far-right politician is allied with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who is second on the list. Orbán has been labelled “the enemy within” by Politico.
Viktor Orbán has managed to break Brussels, according to Tomorrow. Orbán is “stifling press freedom, undermining the independence of the judiciary, manipulating the country’s democratic system and enacting anti-LGBTQ+ laws”.
Hungary is only 2 percent of the EU’s population, and 1 percent of its GDP, yet it is a constant problem. “Every measure seems to fail, and the right-wing leader is only emboldened,” the paper writes. They add that Orbán and the Hungarian government have yet to really know whose side they are on in the Russia-Ukraine war.
