What comes next? Hungarian minister resigned due to debate over energy issues – UPDATED

László Palkovics, Hungary’s innovation and technology minister, resigned today after PM Viktor Orbán accepted Márton Nagy’s proposal to create an independent energy ministry.
According to 24.hu, gossip started to circulate about the resignation of Mr Palkovics this morning. Government officials confirmed the information and, based on the news outlet, PM Viktor Orbán already accepted Palkovics’s decision. The resignation has already been announced in the ministry.
According to government-close sources of 24.hu, the reason for the resignation is a proposal of Márton Nagy, the minister for economic development, to create an independent energy ministry. That means Palkovics would lose his supervision over that area.
He did not accept the restriction of his powers and told ministry officials that he did not sign up for that.
Bertalan Havasi, Orbán’s press chief, did not deny Palkovics’s resignation but added Orbán is on his way to Uzbekistan, so the press should turn to PM chief of staff Gergely Gulyás on the issue.
