Tragedy: Hungarian border guard commits suicide on duty

A border guard committed suicide on Monday morning. The police are investigating the circumstances of the tragic incident as part of a general administrative order.

A border guard committed suicide on Monday morning, Magyar Nemzet reports. The newspaper also wrote that the National Police Headquarters (Országos Rendőrfőkapitányság, ORFK) confirmed their information.

“In response to your inquiry, we inform you that a contracted border guard committed suicide in the morning hours of 10 October 2022, while on duty. The police are investigating the circumstances of the incident under the general administrative procedure. No criminal offence is suspected,” ORFK wrote to Magyar Nemzet.

It is not yet known why the border guard decided to take this fatal step.
