Cabinet briefing: the Hungarian government announced new decisions
Prime Minister’s chief of staff Gergely Gulyás and government spokesperson Alexandra Szentkirályi held their usual Cabinet Briefing on Thursday, after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday. Afterwards Wednesday’s meeting, Orbán announced on his Facebook page that the government accepted the Fidesz Group’s initiative to launch a national consultation on war sanctions. National consultation
The government attaches great importance to giving the people a voice, not the elites, who feel the consequences of European decisions on their own skin, Gergely Gulyás said. The questions will be presented in detail soon and can be filled in on paper or online.
Autumn and winter break in schools
The government decided at yesterday’s meeting that the winter break will be longer than in recent years due to austerity measures. This also means that there will not be an autumn break this school year. The winter break will last from 22 December 2022 to 8 January 2023. The last school day before the break will be 21 December, and the first day after the break will be 9 January. Like this, there will be considerable savings in the institutions.
Next year will be a difficult one
The government has also negotiated with local authorities. Gulyás said that the extra costs will be met with great difficulty, but that even greater savings will be needed next year. They are trying to find a solution for everyone so that they can survive next year, but each municipality will have to adopt a plan to rationally cut spending. Gulyás added that there is no crisis in the government, but they want to keep the budget deficit at 4.9 percent, which is why they have ordered a review of payments in the ministries.
