Orbán holds talks with Hungarian-born businessman Peterffy
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held talks with Thomas Peterffy, Hungarian-born chairman and CEO of multinational Interactive Brokers Group, in Budapest on Tuesday.
Peterffy emigrated to the United States in 1965 and established Timber Hill which then expanded to become Interactive Brokers. His company was the first to introduce electronic trading in the early 80s.
In 2017, Orbán decorated Peterffy with the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary in recognition of his achievements in strengthening Hungary’s reputation
and for his active support provided to a museum commemorating the victims of communism to be built in Washington, DC.
At their talks, Orbán and Peterffy discussed the effects of the coronavirus pandemic and agreed that every possible effort had to be taken to restart the economy and protect jobs as well as create ones as soon as possible.
They also discussed the issue of migration and agreed that a massive inflow of illegal migrants would pose a threat to nation states and their cultural identity.
