Breaking – terraces to open next week, concerts to be held from mid-May?

Based on media information, officials may announce all that at the government info tomorrow morning, or it might happen that PM Viktor Orbán will talk about the next stage of reopening during his regular Friday morning interview in the Kossuth Rádió.

According to telex.hu, they talked to government officials who expect that the bars and restaurants’ terraces would be able to open from April 19. Furthermore, they said that in May, the government might allow organising mass events and enable people to visit, for example, museums. Even though they did not get official confirmation on all that information, based on Telex, the Hungarian Tourism Agency is currently working on a proposal on the issue.

However, obtaining an immunity certificate will probably be a prerequisite

to participate in mass events or visit museums, libraries etc. In the latter case, sources of the Hungarian news website talked about a date between May 1 and 10. However, it is imaginable that – since experts advise caution – the final date will be pushed back. However, those sources were almost sure that the terraces will open next week even though restaurant and club owners, local governments heard

only gossips about that plan yet.

The 6th district plans to help barkeepers and restaurant owners by providing them parking places for free where they can place tables, chairs and provide service. The 7th district – aka the party district of Budapest – does not plan anything similar.

Interestingly, Volt and Balaton Sound already announced that their 2021 festivals will be delayed. Sziget did not communicate yet in the issue, but based on telex’s sources, there is only slight chance to organise the event this August since it

focuses on international guests.

Meanwhile, some festival organisers already said that their events will be held in august, like the Kolorádó, the Fishing on Orfű, the EFOTT, and some smaller events.

PM Viktor Orbán said before that if Hungary reaches 3-3.5 million inoculated people hotels, cultural life might be reopened for those who already got their immunity certificate. Therefore, it would be worth registering for the vaccine, even for those who are hesitating right now.

Hungary reached the 3rd million inoculated citizen yesterday.

Whether terraces open or not on Monday is yet a question. But elementary schools and kindergartens will reopen for sure on April 19 even though trade unions protest since most of the teachers will not be protected from the virus by then because they received their first jab too late.
