Hungary to have superfast trains

MÁV (Hungarian State Railways) Start Ltd. invited tenders to purchase 20 IC+ train carriages capable of running as fast as 200 km/h to use on international routes. MÁV expects applicants to make their offers until 5 May. The production is expected to start early 2017, napi.hu writes.

MÁV’s goal is to purchase 40 bogies which are capable of running at 200 km/h, and 20 complete brakes, along with the necessary parts, components, and services.

The company is preparing for the manufacturing works of 20 new generation IC train carriages to use on the international routes (10 second-class carriages and 10 multipurpose carriages). The production will start after one of the applications is accepted and the requested parts are delivered. This is expected to be done by early 2017.

The company is also planning to purchase 100 IC+ train carriages capable of running 160 km/h, for domestic use. Experts of MÁV have manufactured two prototype carriages in Szolnok, had a test run in October 2014, and were granted the rights for international and domestic use in June 2015.

The prototypes were used by Wiener Walzer EuroNight in March, and they operate between Budapest and Hamburg on Hungária EuroCity in April. Both the Swiss and Austrian companies gave positive feedback and MÁV Start was also satisfied with the carriages.
