Coronavirus – Consular service prepared to help Hungarians in need

Hungary’s consular service is prepared to help any Hungarian citizens in need of assistance abroad, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Facebook on Tuesday.
The Hungarian government has decided to close borders to foreigners starting Sept. 1, with certain exceptions, re-introducing border protection measures in force during the first wave of the novel coronavirus epidemic.
With the ongoing surge in cases across the globe,
the government’s top priority is to prevent a flare-up of the epidemic in Hungary and protect its citizens,
Szijjártó said.
The minister also noted that there were a limited number of border crossings open, adding that the government discourages citizens from travelling abroad.
Szijjártó added that
commuters from the countries that share a border with Hungary are exempt from the ban on entry by foreigners.
